The Holiest of Weeks

The Sisters at the Mother of Good Counsel Home have entered into the holiness of this week commemorating the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Several of us watched The Passion of the Christ last night and were inspired once again by the depth of Christ's love for each of us, for those whom we serve and who work side by side with us, and for each and every human being.

Be assured of our prayers for you and your families as you follow in the footsteps of our Lord on His way to Calvary!

Kim's Cookies Bring Great Joy

Kim works in the Mother of Good Counsel Home and - through her talents and great spirit of generosity - bakes cookies for the construction workers who have been working on our Home's renovation project. From the look on Grant's face above, you can see that she has made him and his coworkers very happy.

The Clean Team Strikes!

Thanks to three of our novices from Alton, Illinois, who traveled over two bridges (Mississippi and Missouri) to get here, our Home is a little cleaner for this Sunday's Mass which will conclude the Mother of Good Counsel Home's 75th Jubilee Year.

Sister M. Antonia (left) is known for wanting to "clean" something that is dirty. With all our renovation project in full swing, we can assure her that she will never run out of things to clean.

We Sisters enjoyed the overnight stay of our novices who, when the weather report was heavily snow-packed, were told by their novice director to stay put on this side of the River. They went along with Sister Mary Elizabeth, one of our Sister-nurses, to give the "good-night" blessing to the residents on her floor. Surely she would try to recruit nurses from the group.

Welcome to our New Blog!

First of all, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George welcome you to our newest blog, specifically from the Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis.

Our Sisters have continued the mission of caring for the elderly of the St. Louis area for over 75 years. The Mother of Good Counsel Home is one of many specific works, or apostolates, of our Congregation.

Our charism, or special characteristic, is to make Christ's merciful love visible to the world in our work, our lives and our prayer.

Second, our foundress, Mother M. Anselma Bopp, who was God's instrument in initiating our Franciscan way of life in 1869 in Germany, had a wonderful maxim which is the inspiration for our blog: "The surest way to heaven is to be simple, faithful and humble in our service."

We welcome you to visit our blog and leave your comments from time to time. You and your intentions are in our daily prayers in the chapel which is seen above and which was just renovated. Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the Heart of our Home!
